Carlos Corberan: The Next England Manager?
If you are a fan of English football, you might be wondering who will be the next manager of the national team after Gareth Southgate’s departure. There are many names being thrown around, but one of them stands out for me: Carlos Corberan.
Who is Carlos Corberan, you ask? Well, he is a Spanish coach who is currently in charge of West Bromwich Albion, one of the surprise packages of the Championship this season. He has taken them from the relegation zone to the play-off spots in just a few months, playing an attractive and effective style of football.
But Corberan is not a newcomer to English football. He has been working in this country since 2017, when he joined Leeds United as their under-23 manager. He soon became a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s staff, helping him to win promotion to the Premier League in 2020.
Corberan then decided to take his own managerial challenge at Huddersfield Town, where he impressed with his ability to improve players and implement his philosophy. He led them to the play-off final last season, where they narrowly lost to Brentford.
He left Huddersfield in July 2021 and had a brief spell at Olympiakos in Greece, where he won only two of his 11 games and was sacked after less than two months. However, he bounced back quickly and joined West Brom in October, where he has transformed their fortunes.
So what makes Corberan a good candidate for the England job? Well, first of all, he has a lot of experience in English football, both at club and international level. He knows the culture, the players and the expectations. He also speaks fluent English, which is important for communication and leadership.
Secondly, he has a clear and exciting vision of how he wants his teams to play. He likes to play with high intensity, pressing, possession and creativity. He adapts his tactics to suit his players and his opponents, but always with an attacking mindset. He also values youth development and gives opportunities to young talents.
Thirdly, he has a proven track record of success and improvement. He has won titles and promotions in different countries and leagues. He has also shown resilience and adaptability in overcoming challenges and setbacks. He has earned respect and admiration from his peers and his players.
Of course, Corberan is not perfect. He has some weaknesses that he needs to work on if he wants to become the next England manager. For example, he sometimes lacks defensive solidity and balance in his teams. He also needs to prove himself at the highest level of club football and international football.
But I believe that Corberan has what it takes to be a great England manager. He has passion, intelligence, charisma and ambition. He has a modern and attractive style of football that suits the current generation of English players. He has a hunger for learning and improving.
Carlos Corberan may not be a household name yet, but he could be soon. He is one of the most exciting coaches in Europe right now, and I think he deserves a chance to lead England into a new era.
